Chinese Lunar New Year Red Packets:
NGIES Blue Packets 2023—Year of Rabbit
In 2022, I welcomed my second feline friend from SPCA Singapore. Meet Ginkgo, a chubby white kitty with an insatiable appetite. As the Lunar New Year of 2023 approached, I found myself in a rush to come up with a design for my red packets. As I was sketching, I couldn't help but notice how much Ginkgo resembled a mochi bunny! And so, I ran with that inspiration.
The end result was a colourful candy packaging-inspired design, reminiscent of the ones found at local Asian markets, a look I very much enjoy. It perfectly captures Ginkgo's playful and greedy nature, my little goblin.
Because I wanted to steer away from the typical red packet designs that often wishes for wealth and fortune, I chose the phrase "动如脱兔，笑口常开" which translates to "moving like a rabbit and always laughing", which is exactly what Ginkgo does during his happiest while playing! May we all learn from him, appreciate life and hop around while being filled with joy and laughter!
Those carrot eyes are mesmerising indeed!
